Adopt Me Read and Rescue was founded to raise awareness of the invaluable role that reading buddies play in a child's reading development. Reading to a trusted plush friend enhances fluency and improves reading skills. These special companions also help reduce performance anxiety and create a safe environment for learning and growth. With millions of storybooks and cuddly friends in need of loving homes, Adopt Me Read and Rescue strives to pair each child with the perfect reading buddy and storybook. Our mobile adoption station includes both previously cherished friends and pets from new litters seeking their first home. All pets undergo rigorous training and preparation before becoming available for adoption, including a 5-point cleaning and potty training process. Every adoption experience is memorable, and each pet chosen is sure to hold a special place in your child's heart.

Every great idea begins as a small spark, a gentle nudge, and then, one day, a piece of oneself that refuses to fade away. For Melanie Salas, Chief Rescue Officer, 'Adopt Me ' was this special idea. It all originated during her early years as a first and second grade teacher, where she developed a passion for children’s books and the incredible impact that captivating stories had on children.
As she transitioned into motherhood, she observed her daughters developing a profound affinity for rescuing stuffed animals and secondhand books. Her family outings turned into thrilling treasure hunts, where they sought out new additions to their stuffed family and embarked on countless adventures through rescued books. After years of corporate leadership experience, these beautiful memories were the catalyst that brought her to where she stands today, serving as the Chief Rescue Officer of
‘Adopt Me ’.
She sincerely hopes that these special pets and pre-loved books will find a cherished place in your hearts and create enduring memories within your family.

Mission
Adopt Me Read and Rescue was established to offer children a memorable experiential opportunity to discover a special plush reading buddy with whom they can share the joy of reading adventures. Through this unique bond, children enhance their reading skills and fluency and form a strong connection with their plush friends.
Research has consistently shown that the primary indicator of reading success is the presence of books in the home. Unfortunately, only 39% of households have access to books.
Committed to addressing this issue, Adopt Me Read and Rescue has launched our "OnE fOr YoU & OnE fOr Me!" program. We are dedicated to increasing the availability of books in low-income homes by donating a book and a reading buddy to a child in need for every adoption kit purchased.
The Story
The Story
In the town of Wag-a-ville,
And up atop the largest hill...
sat the town’s library filled with books
stacks and stacks for as far as you could look.
So many books that were once loved and cared for,
now sat on the tables and in messy piles on the floor.
And back down that BIG library hill, in the center of Wag-a-ville,
pets without homes were roaming here and there,
All different kinds of pets were found everywhere
Some were big, and some were small.
Some were short, and some were tall.
They each needed a home with a warm bed,
a place to cuddle, listen to stories, and rest their little heads.
Sweet little Chloe had an idea that was grand!
She grabbed all of her friends to pitch a hand.
They collected all the extra books from the library,
bedrooms, and reading nooks, many of which had been read before,
many that once were loved and adored.
All ready for a new owner to love,
adventures from deep in the sea to high in the sky above.
And then, one by one, they collected the dogs, mice, bunnies and cats.
Some small and thin, and some round and fat.
All wanting to find a home of their own.
One with endless treats and doggy bones.
Then, in Wag-a-ville, it was officially declared Adoption Day;
a time to match kids with books and a special furry friend to read to and for play.
There were so many books of adventure ready for children
to explore and cuddy reading buddies who couldn’t wait for
the fun that was in store.
Tyler adopted Hank and an exciting adventure book about
a young whale named Frank.
Lola adopted a sweet cat named Firefly and a storybook about
a beautiful castle in the sky.
Cole adopted cute and cuddly Benny and a tale about a mischievous tiny guinea.
And Ruby adopted a sweet bunny friend named Luna Mae
and a book about a beautiful girl’s birthday.
From that day on, in the town of Wag-a-Ville, in all the homes beneath the tall
library hill, each child had a new book and a reading buddy to call their own;
to snuggle, to read to, and to ensure they would never be alone.
...and still to this day, “Adopt Me Read and Rescue”
helps pets and books find a new home,
they match kids with a reading buddy and a book all of their own!
